    Narcos

    Photo: Netflix

Fan Score: 95% (average across seasons)

Critic Score: 89% (average across seasons)

The Plot: As its title implies,Narcos is inspired by true stories of drug lords, particularly Pablo Escobar (Wagner Moura) in the first two seasons. The third season resumes the story after Escobar's demise. Across the full series, a great deal of attention is also paid to the DEA and its efforts to bring about the end of the various cartels.

How He Steals The Show: Pascal portrays Javier Peña, a member of the DEA who takes the lead in bringing about the demise of Escobar and the cartels. It would have been easy for the show to focus primarily on Escobar and his exploits, but Peña becomes the most fascinating and richly developed character. Though he is the epitome of the law, he has a number of dark secrets of his own, and he proves quite willing to commit his own morally questionable actions in his pursuit of what he sees as justice.

A Story Behind-The-Scenes: Pascal’s Peña, like many of the other characters ofNarcos,is based on a real person. In fact, the real Peña made a cameo in the series, along with Steve Murphy; they both play patrons at a bar as news of Escobar's death begins to spread.

    The Mandalorian

Fan Score: 78% (average across seasons)

Critic Score: 90% (average across seasons)

The Plot: The Mandalorianfocuses on Din Djarin (Pascal) as he engages in a series of missions and quests as a bounty hunter. After he crosses paths with a little being known as Grogu, however, his life changes forever, and he soon finds his fate intersecting with that of the other exiles of Mandalore and the fledgling New Republic.

How He Steals The Show: There's so much to love about Pascal’s performance in this series, despite the fact he only shows his face on a bare handful of occasions. From the moment he appears, the Mandalorian exudes a sort of world-weary gravitas, but he always manages to stay just this side of cynical. It’s only once he meets the Child - later named Grogu - that he really gets to show just how textured and complicated he is as a character. He quickly shows how much he truly does care about his young companion, and their bond became one of the best things about the show as a whole. The soulfulness of Pascal’s performance earned him significant, and deserved, praise.

A Story Behind The Scenes: Pascal might have given a great performance inThe Mandalorian, but the filming wasn't without its costs. On one occasion, Pascal walked out of his makeup trailer and was too busy looking at himself. He ended up walking into a piece of plywood with such force he ended up having to go to the emergency room, where hehad seven stitches put in his nose.

    Game of Thrones

    Photo: HBO

Fan Score: 85% (average across seasons)

Critic Score: 89% (average across seasons)

The Plot: Based on the series of novels by George R. R. Martin,Game of Thronesfocuses on the various struggles of the powerful families of Westeros, who are all vying for control of the Iron Throne. At the same time, they also face the looming threat of the supernatural terrors known as the White Walkers.

How He Steals The Show: Pascal portrays the rakish Oberyn Martell, who comes to the capital of King's Landing as an emissary of his brother, even as he also seeks vengeance for the death of his sister decades earlier. He is a formidable character and an excellent duelist, but his most powerful weapon may be his charisma, as he's capable of seducing almost anyone in his orbit. Pascal brings out the duality of Oberyn’s character, right up until the moment his haughtiness, arrogance, and relentless desire for vengeance leads to his gruesome death at the hands of the man known as the Mountain.

A Story Behind The Scenes: While Oberyn's death scene is undeniably gruesome - he has his eyes gouged out and his skull crushed - the actual filming of the scene was remarkably relaxing for Pascal. As he recounted in an interview, the combination of the hot weather and the cool artificial blood actually created the perfect environment for a quick nap. Filming the scene also ended up being remarkably cathartic, even though it took four days to complete.

    Triple Frontier

    Photo: Netflix

    Fan Score: 58%

    Critic Score: 70%

The Plot: Pedro Pascal appears as part of a remarkably stacked cast inTriple Frontier,in which he plays the characterFrancisco "Catfish" Morales. He's part of a group of former soldiers who, of course, go on a mission to South America to steal from a drug lord.

How He Steals The Show: WhileTriple Frontiermight not win any awards for doing something new with the heist film formula, it deserves a lot of credit for its remarkable cast. Pascal is more than up to the task of acting with other formidable talents like Ben Affleck and Oscar Isaac.Morales delivers some funny lines, and he even gets enough of a backstory to make him compelling in his own right (he's going on the mission to help raise money for his kid).

A Story Behind The Scenes: In order to capture just the right amount of realism and verisimilitude in the film, the various members of the cast were actually trained by members of the military. This included both army workouts as well asthe use of live ammunition, which necessarily impacted the way the cast behaved on-set.

    Kingsman: The Golden Circle

    Fan Score: 64%

    Critic Score: 51%

The Plot: Kingsman: The Golden Circle, the sequelto Kingsman: The Secret Service, rejoins Eggsy Unwin (Taron Egerton) and the other members of Kingsman in the aftermath of the first film. In this new adventure, they have to collaborate with their American counterparts in order to defeat a cartel known as the Golden Circle.

How He Steals The Show: Even in a film in which there are many moving pieces, Pedro manages to stand out as Agent Whiskey, who becomes Eggsy’s partner. He can wield weapons with the best of him - particularly his signature whip - and he can also deliver a killer line. As ever with Pascal, he exudes charm, even when he's dealing out death left and right. Even when he goes rogue near the end of the film, it’s hard not to want to see him succeed in his efforts to bring about the death of all drug-dealers. Not every actor can portray a loose cannon with such panache and humanity, but Pascal is more than up to the task.

A Story Behind The Scenes: The Golden Circlehas a stacked cast, including Halle Berry, who is famous for, among other things, portraying Catwoman. It turns out Pascal had his own Catwoman moment in the film, when he was able to hit a bag of dust withone crack of his whip (though he hastened to point out how some of his other stunts weren't quite as easy to accomplish).

    The Last of Us

    Photo: HBO

    Fan Score: 89%

    Critic Score: 96%

The Plot: Based on the video game of the same name,The Last of Ustakes place on an Earth ravaged by a fungal plague which has turned many people to zombies. Most of the action focuses on Joel (Pascal) as he travels with and protects a young woman named Ellie (Bella Ramsey), who seems to be immune to the plague.

How He Steals The Show: Pascal proved to be one of the most appealing things about the show. Even though the world has fallen apart around him and even though he has suffered grave losses (like almost everyone else on Earth), Joel still holds true to his moral compass and to his loyalty to Ellie. Pascal manages to capture Joel’s strength and his vulnerability in equal measure, and it's the raw humanity of his portrayal which makes this one of his finest roles.

A Story Behind The Scenes: Even though Pascal has now come to be firmly associated with the role of Joel, the HBO adaptation also left room for several of the voice cast of the original game. Troy Baker, the voice actor for Joelin the game, appears in the eighth episode as a villain, James, who follows a sinister cult leader. Ashley Johnson, who voices Ellie in the game, was also brought into the TV adaptation, appearing asEllie’s mother in the finale.
