I love to make my favorite restaurant-style sandwich and burger recipes, including Travis Scott Burger, KFC Copycat Chicken Donut Sandwich, and these cheesy and delicious egg sausage McMuffins.

The McMuffin was introduced as a menu item back in 1972 and quickly became a staple of American breakfast culture. When the hustle and bustle of life have you on the move, the McMuffin breakfast sandwich provides a quick, tasty and affordable price tag that allows you to grab and go. With this copycat recipe, you can now prepare these ahead of time at home to make meal planning a breeze!

What is the Sausage Egg McMuffin Made Of?

  • Sausage Patties: The sausage patty is the hero of this sandwich! It’s super easy to make your own sausage patties from scratch using ground meat and seasonings. For store-bought options, you can use Jimmy Dean’s fully cooked sausage patties. For plant-based patties, try the MorningStar brand. You can also sub Canadian bacon or a piece of ham.
  • English muffins: These small, round rolls are the perfect size and shape for a breakfast slider. Check the bakery of your favorite grocery store for the freshest English muffins.
  • Olive Oil: We recommend using olive oil to fry up your eggs and sausage patties. If you prefer, you can use another option such as canola or vegetable oil.
  • Eggs: To ensure your eggs will be the perfect shape and size for your sandwich, use mason jar lids or egg rings.
  • American Cheese: For a classic McMuffin, use American cheese. If you prefer, you can also use sliced cheddar cheese.
  • Cooking Spray: It will hep the egg from sticking to mason jar lids or egg rings.

  • You can also use breakfast sausage to make the sausage patties. If it’s easier, you can break the pork breakfast sausages and shape them into rounds.
  • Use mason jar lids or egg rings to shape the eggs: To ensure your eggs are neat and tidy for your sandwich, use egg rings or a mason jar lid to maintain the shape of your eggs.
  • Make it ahead (you can freeze sausage egg muffins): Making meals ahead of time saves you time and money down the line. After making your sandwiches, wrap them individually in wax paper or tinfoil and place in a freezer-safe bag. These can be frozen for up to one month.
